Why glass water bottles are better

For decades, bottled water companies have spent millions of dollars to try and persuade us to buy their product. They served up ads with pristine mountainscapes, snow-fed rivers, and we drank it up.

Americans are addicted to bottled water. As a nation we throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. And the bottles that don't reach the landfill often find their way down storm drains which lead directy to the ocean. Once there the bottles have been shown to impact wildlife.

On Midway in the North Pacific, albatross are attracted to small pieces of plastic such as bottled water lids that they think are food. The consequences of their mistake are tragic.

Why do we partake in this nonsense? Somehow the bottled water industry has convinced us that we need their products, but we don't. In addition to being wasteful and harmful to the environment, bottled water may also leach hormone-disrupting chemicals.*

And what has been tap's response to bottled water’s attack ads? Unfortunately it’s has never had much of a marketing budget. While their intentions are good, their work pales in comparison to the sophisticated marketing tactics of private bottlers.
